Jewel Box Theatre continues to serve as an outreach of Disciples First – OKC.
JBT is the longest continuously operating theatre in the state of Oklahoma. We traditionally host six productions each year, including both plays and musicals. Jewel Box Theatre was founded as the “Little Theatre Players” in 1911 as a ministry of the First Christian Church of Oklahoma City. Performances were held at the church’s original location downtown, at 10th and Robinson. In 1947, the church purchased a golf course at 36th and Walker, and created a park and an outdoor amphitheater with Friday evening music performances. The theatre stayed at the original building. Almost a decade later, a unique, in-the-round performing space was included in the plans for “The Church of Tomorrow,” and was christened as the Jewel Box Theatre. In 2020, the Jewel Box Theatre, along with Disciples First ̶̶ OKC, moved into our current space.
